I had a problem with my computer awhile back where it wouldn't do anything but show a flashing curser in the top lefthand corner. I was directed by a computer tech to do a quick restore on my computer and it worked okay after that. Then the other day it started doing the same thing again and I tried to do a quick restore like before but it wouldn't even do that. It stopped halfway through the restore and now NOTHING.........should I replace the hard drive, or is it just dead?
Additional Details2 weeks ago
The drive was not making any noise, but after the quick restore failed the first time I tried several more times but it wouldn't even start the restore disk. I just don't know whether to spend the money to replace the hard drive or if it's too late and I should just let it rest in peace......thanks for your help everyone!!By Tinkerbel...

scan ur HDD first aftr that install OS again if the problem generate again it best to replace ur HDD
Is your hard drive making noises? if so yes you should buy a new hard drive. IF NOT then you should try the restore again and if still nothing post another question saying what you have done so far
Possible that the harddrive is not running at its normal speed, freezing up or slowing down.
Or has quit.
My computer took 20 min. to boot the other day.
I was watching the HDD activity indicator light,
and it would remain on, and not rapidly blinking.
Mechanical devices do have problems.
Harddrive manufacturers have software for download for testing HDD.

Also dust collects inside computer, and can cause overheating and/or hardware damage. Is yours clean ???????????
if nothing from above works... try formatting your harddisk.... no need to to replace it.. (i think...) if it got stucked between the restoration... some files may have got currupted...
