What sort of things can a person do to be safe and healthy when traveling?

I'm going to Costa Rica next month and I'm just looking for ideas. By lindzimaeMake sure you have all necessary vaccinations, and that tetanus is up to date. Have all prescriptions you need packed in your carry-on with you, NOT under the plane--as they could be lost and you do not want to try to have them filled in a foreign country!

Use traveler's checks, try to only carry what you need secured to you discreetly--like a fanny pack, etc. Never go anywhere alone. If you are approached by someone suspicious, calmly walk away. If someone does try to mug you--GIVE them what they ask for. Your life is more valuable. This may sound like a morbid thing to add, but is a sad and common occurrence for foreign travelers especially. Gl and have safe fun!

Drink bottled water. If you're not used to their water you'll get sick.
No raw food - sushi, etc. Fruits you peel are pretty safe -- rinse fruits, veggies, etc. with bottled water only. Ice cubes can be dicey if made with tap water. Don't eat street food. Bring Pepto and Immodium in case of travelers diarrhea. Get plenty of rest and vitamins Have fun!
if you are not used to live here u might get sick, i didnt get sick when i first got here, and im never sick. after 9(almost 10!) years of living here...
