My dad is going to Kenya & Ghana for work. So I'm wondering what sort of souveniers that I can ask my dad to buy for me coz all I can think of is t-shirt. Do you have any other suggestions? But please don't recommend some expensive souveniers, a low cost souveniers would be just fine for me... TQ... By nurfariza...

When I visited Ghana a LONG time ago, street vendors sold hand-made carvings and hand-sewn traditional shirts that weren't too expensive. We brought back a hand-carved wooden chess set. You don't have to go for anything extravagant, but local artwork is always good- it will be distinctly different from something you picked up somewhere else in the world- unlike T-shirts :)

Anyway, ask for a wrap or scarf. Maybe a pretty beaded necklace or earrings? Maybe a wooden trinket box with designs to represent the country? They have all kinds of vendors that sell in huge market places. Almost like a big flea market with people selling homemade trinkets or what nots. I'm sure they won't be expensive so he may be able to get you a few things! :)
of course will buy something easy to transport in the flight! hahaha
I recommend Music. CDs, tapes, vinyl too. BUT, ttake care with the labels, iF you buy Traditional music, check the CD's aren't "made in malaysia" or "virgin records" or "BMG Records" .. the labels got to be the regional label, even if it is or not a known label.
and something to wear! and somethint to have it on your room or your desk.. and the most important: ask her for a surprise, ask to buy something "just good or special to you", maybe you will dislike the suprise - or you may love it!

in Kenya one can find ruby. ask for that too.

I have been to Ghana several times and Iam going back in November and I find that their dress material is very nice as well as the men dressing so maybe try that and its not very expensive.
Ask for a gold earring from Ghana ..pretty cheap and a beautiful kente cloth or just beads for a necklace or wrist band.....Kenya has beautiful leather sandals that you can wear in the summer.
The face MASK is the best you can get, it's very African and they do the best job.
Ask your dad to take allot of photos for you so that you can see where he was. Also let he decide what to bring you i work away from my family to and i always get them small things i never plan on what to buy ...some time i see something which will remind me of one of them and then i buy it and believe me i always get hugs . So be prepared to give him allot of hugs
