I got to go there for only $100. The rest of the cost was financed -- it was a Mission Trip.
May/early June, or September and October. It's not as hot and fares and hotel rates are cheaper.
you can't have both, cheap and best time to visit. The tourist off season is october - march, this is the cheapest time to visit
late september, the weather is still nice and the hotel and travel prices drop.

Avoid August as it's sooooooo hot in the cities. October to March can be lovely.
A lot of people have recommended the off season, October through March, but haven't warned you about the downfall. It's very rainy and gray here during those months. It's definitely more expensive during the summer, but it is warm, sunny, and beautiful. You can try early spring and fall as some have recommended, while the seasons are still changing. It will cost less but you are gambling with the weather during that time period. Could turn out nice or could rain the whole week you're here.
Of course, if a little cold and rainy weather doesn't bother you the winter could be perfect.
