That is a good question. I went to France in 1999 and the French were SO polite, funny, and welcoming to me and my group of American students on a class trip. They arent rude...it would help if you knew the language before you went over there, or they would get annoyed with you...which I totally think some Americans deserve...n'est pas? Other Answer
There are some rude ones. But any big city have them.
who said that, i think every where in the world there is the nice and the bad people, so who think in that way isn't right.
Probably because they never got to really know any of them.
People judge other way to quickly and will often blindly take the opinions of their friends whether they are true or not.
It's because people like stereotypes. It is easier than getting to know someone. At least you speak from experience. I have only been to Paris once and had no problems with the people there but i was only there for one day so I am in no position to say what they are really like.
If you are nice and polite then you can expect that most people will be nice and polite to you. Sounds like you are a nice and polite person :)
rude, don't know about that. i think they are selfish.we helped them in WWII.when we asked for their help in Iran they said no.

there are rude people everywhere......... and usually some people act like fools when visiting other countries so they probably are deserving of the rude treatment.
I am American and lived in France as of a year ago for a while. I have never been mistreated in France at all, and people are always nice to me. People approach me, talk to me, they help me out when I'm lost. I have no idea where the stereotype began. It may help that I speak French, but then again, I find a lot of rude people in Spain, and I speak Spanish too.
I don't think that Parisains are known to be rude, but sometimes the French are. I was there about a year ago, and everyone was quite nice to me.
Parisians gained a reputation for being rude because they are a proud people. When the typical American tourist goes to France, he arrogantly expects everyone to speak English. He then compounds the problem by declaring everyone who doesn't speak English to be "stupid." Most people don't take well to this kind of treatment, Parisians included.
I speak very little French, but I found that when I made an effort to speak the language, the people of Paris very much appreciated my efforts, even if I mangled their language. They knew that I was trying to make an effort and were generally most helpful to me.
