I would go to Italy...the food, the wines, the canals, the Italian men..mmmm
you can do both and include Austria and Switzerland.
Germany is more relaxing and the people there are less intrusive. Personally, I have had much better cuisine in Bavaria than anywhere in Italy. The castles are great to visit, but take some time to get to generally, some exceptions though.
Italy is more universally appealing with so much to offer in terms of history and art, whereas with Germany it is almost necessary to have a previous connection with the county. The pace in Rome, my favorite Italian city, is a bit frantic and makes it hard to really enjoy things. Venice is less like that.
Basically, it depends on what you want.
Invite an italian girl to go to Germany.
