How do I get icons off my start menu toolbar- located by the clock. I have items I want to delete that show up during initial start. Things like Yahoo messenger, Yahoo music. I have gone to their properties but can't find a place on them to take them off start up. Any help would be appreciated. By texsun817

go to start, click run, type in msconfig, then click startup, and uncheck all the items you do not want on the startup, then exit and reboot and see if that works
You manually can stop programs from starting on boot by going to START / RUN / MSCONFIG. But that tends to be a little messy. The best thing to do is get a program that does is , just search yahoo for one
The easiest way is to down-load , jv16 power tools, ( it's a free reg.cleaner) go to the start menu option and click on whatever you don't want to start when you boot. Very neat tool and it will speed up your' 'puter too.
Yahoo Messenger is easy to remove from your startup. Open Yahoo Messenger. Go to Messenger => Preferences. Under the General tab, un-check the checkbox next to "When I Start Up My Computer: Automatically Start Yahoo! Messenger"
As for the other programs... Try hunting down any options such as settings, tools, preferences etc. If you can't do it that way (and you have Windows XP), then click: Start => All Programs => Startup, and delete any program shortcuts out of there you don't want to launch by default upon startup.
There are other things you can do, but they are a bit more involved and can cause problems if not done correctly since they involve settings on your computer, registry etc.
Good luck!
