I am an Indian Chartered Accountant. I will be taking up a job in Brussels. I will be soon issued a work permit. I am planning to take my wife along with me on a spouse visa. She is an electronics engineer (from India). Can she work under the belgian immigration laws ? What is the procedure ? I had heard that she cannot take up a full time job. And if she takes up a job, her prospective employer has to first advertise for a belgian/ EU national and can appoint her only if there are no belgian/ EU nationals available for the opening. Advise you to be a little careful with work in Belgium... Their unemployment rate is quite high and it is not sure that you are assured of a job or that you just have a work permit.. It would be best if you had a job lined up prior to going.. The wife, of course, would have to have a work permit and they are not easy to come by with the unemployment so high
depends on the contract - some people cant get their spouses to work for that reason. spouses who wanna work need to get sponsored by their own companies. other than that good luck
